What is Draniki?

Draniki is a dish made of healthy potato pancakes. You can find potato pancakes in many European cuisines. You can find potato pancakes in many European cuisines, including Lithuanian cuisine to the north and German cuisine to the kartoffelpuffer to Central Europe.

The Belarusian national dish is drunk, which gives the food an even higher significance. This simple recipe for fried pancakes is great for feeding a crowd, regardless of how many people you are hosting.

Traditional Belarusians serve large portions of drank in large crockery dishes with lots of sour creams. However, no matter how you like our drink recipe: they are easy to make!

Ingredients

You will need the following ingredients to make drank:

Potatoes – 6 medium (700 grams total)

Egg – 1 medium

Flour – 3 heaped teaspoons

1 medium-sized white onion

Salt – 1 teaspoon

Pepper – 1/2 tsp

Sunflower oil – 4 tbsp

Garlic, 2-3 cloves optional

Fresh herbs (dill and Parsley) – one handful, optional

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 Grate the potatoes and place them in a bowl. Mix the mixture in a bowl. Allow the mixture to rest for approximately 5-7 minutes.

Step 2: Depending on your preference, squeeze the potato liquid out with your hands or a cheesecloth.

Step 3 Once your potato is prepared, grate and add the onion to the drained potatoes.

Step 4 Crack the egg in a separate bowl and beat it before adding it to the potato-onion mix.

Step 5 Next, add the black olives and other ingredients, such as minced garlic and dill.

Ingredients

Six medium potatoes (approx 700g or 1.5 lb).

1 medium egg

3 heaped tablespoons of all-purpose/plain flour

1 medium-sized white onion

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

4 tbsp sunflower oils

Optional: 2-3 cloves of garlic

Optional: A handful of fresh herbs (dill, Parsley).

Instructions

Add the potatoes to a bowl. Mix the potatoes in a bowl with 1 teaspoon of salt. Allow the mixture to rest for approximately 5-7 minutes.

You can squeeze the potato liquid out with your hands or use a cheesecloth to do so, depending on your preference.

Once you have your potato ready, grate the onion.

Break the egg into a separate bowl and beat it before adding it to the potato-onion mix.

Then, add the black olive oil and other ingredients, such as minced garlic or dill.

Mix the flour into the mixture and then mix it thoroughly. It would help if you got a batter that looks like a pancake batter.

Add 1 tbsp oil to a large pan. Heat on medium heat. Once the oil shimmers, reduce the heat to medium and add one scoop of batter. This will make little potato pancakes. Cook the pancakes for 3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown.
