These delicious, tender and sweet nuggets can be called Maple Roasted Sweet Potatoes or candied yams. They are the perfect side dish for Thanksgiving. These nuggets are also very easy to make, making them a staple on my Thanksgiving menu. Because I have to make ten different recipes at once, things must be as easy as possible. Mix everything in a bowl, then put it in the oven. Then, you can let the kids do their thing while cooking the rest of your meal. It’s done!
ARE THEY YAMS OR SWEET POTATOES?
For decades, this has been the subject of much discussion. These orange-coloured root vegetables have been a topic of much debate for decades. This video clip is from Alton brown’s Serious Eats and covers the history of sweet potatoes and the controversy surrounding the term “yam”. It is worth the effort to see the “man-yam” part.
They are mine, no matter what they are called. Language is fluid. For this recipe, make sure you buy the orange guys. 😉
DID YOU MAKE THESE ROASTED SWEET POTATOES?
These can be roasted the day before and reheated on Thanksgiving Day. However, fresh ones look better. After refrigeration, the appearance of sweet potatoes can change from a translucent candied look to a more dull and darkened appearance. Instead, peel and cube sweet potatoes the day ahead so you can pop them in the oven on the big day.
CAN I EAT SWEET POTATOES IN A LOWER TIME?
You can roast the sweet potatoes simultaneously with your turkey if you want to do double duty. You can roast sweet potatoes simultaneously with your turkey at 350oF. However, they will take longer to roast (probably another 20 minutes). Ensure that you stir the sweet potatoes every 20 minutes during roasting.
